Usually after acquiring or finding a source of food, a grizzly bear will cover it with debris...dirt, grass, brush...whatever is handy and then he will place himself within ear, eye, and most importantly nose distance of his covered cache. Generally he will be within several hundred yards and preferably uphill if the situation warrants. Uphill being to his advantage because during the day natural wind thermals almost always rise ... straight to his nose. One of the worst situations an unwary hiker could stumble upon. This is the scenario I wanted to capture with my painting, with the viewer having the vantage point of a hiker. What happens next is entirely up to the bear….....
