Late Afternoon Storm Clouds

This is my first attempt to do a landscape. It is an oil on a 12 x 24 gallery wrap canvas. I am trying to learn to do loose landscapes and plein air paintings in an effort to improve the backgrounds for my animal paintings.

So, bear with my feeble attempts for awhile .

This particular one is from some photos I took late one afternoon. I had stopped to try to get some pictures of a really cute little paint colt but it was a bit too dark. When I turned around to go back to my car, I was struck by the beauty of the sky and hills. Dark storm clouds rolling through, and the hills and trees were all orange from the late afternoon sun. So, I attempted to paint it today. I will probably revisit this subject after I have some more landscapes and more hours plein air painting under my belt.
