Untitled Buffalo Sketch by Earleywine Untitled Buffalo Sketch by Earleywine
8 x 10 charcoal on bark paper

Just one of the buffalo I saw hanging out on one of my day trips to Yellowstone. And another product of the half hour a night sketching sessions with my daughter

Beautiful! Lovely shading, great angle, and I love that tail. And what a lovely mother-daughter idea - makes me want to ask my mom if she would do this with me. :)

Nice drawing and a great animal. I've never seen a buffalo in my whole life :lonely:; hope I will sometime though, may be I will get lucky to see a wisent
Anyway, the pose also seem somewhat unusual to me and you certainly succeeded in depicting animal's heavy and mighty features with charcoal

LOL Yes - I do have a habit of drawing animals in non-typical poses. I get teased by a couple of my friends who say that I like to draw animals butts. hahaha So, this is another of my series of animal butt drawings.

Buffalo are very awesome creatures. I see them a lot when I go over to Yellowstone Park - and I never get tired of them. I love their colors - beautiful tans and black. And they are massive. Late summer is their breeding season, and literally thousands of them will be in Lamar Valley in the park. Buffalo as far as you can see. And if you stop and listen, the sound of the males grunting and snorting echoes through the valley. I love the sound, and it makes my heart smile :).

This looks like fun to draw. I miss my childhood days when I use to draw a lot. This brings back old memories.

Excellent work Pam, the texture adds a distinct character to an already well rendered piece. :iconthumbsupplz:

Really nice work! I've never heard of bark paper before, but I can tell it has a lot of texture. Makes your drawings very rich and lush.

Thanks! I am thinking the bark paper may well end up being like a trademark for my drawings. I love the texture and the colors - but I do have to compromise a little detail to use it

Yes, I can see that happening. ;) Your pieces tend to have that really nice texured feel to them, so I think this paper would capitalize on that all the more. Plus, even though you don't include the detail, I'm sure the paper would help give the impression that there's more there than you actually put on.

Thanks :). I love the paper - it has great texture and color. It is a bit of a compromise, because I can not get fine detail using it - but worth it for the affect I think
